What we collect
When you use the URL Scanner on orwell.watch, we fetch the article text from the URL you provide and analyse it. The article text, URL, extracted title, and analysis results (score, rule breakdowns, highlights) are stored in our database to power the leaderboard and shareable score pages.
What we don't collect
- No personal information (name, email, address)
- No account or login required
- No cookies beyond essential functionality
- No tracking pixels or third-party analytics
- No advertising or ad-related data collection
Browser extension
The Orwell Score browser extension analyses pages entirely locally in your browser. The scoring engine runs on your device — no article text is sent to our servers unless you explicitly choose to save the result. Saved results are stored with the same policy as the web scanner above.
Data storage
Analysis results are stored in a Supabase (PostgreSQL) database. Each scan is identified by a random UUID — not linked to any user account or personal identifier. Public scans may appear on the leaderboard and are accessible via their unique URL.
Third-party services
- Supabase — database hosting
- Render — API hosting
- Vercel — web app hosting
We do not share your data with any other third parties.
